Imagine borscht with potatoes served on a Battleship game board, or kopytka (Polish gnocchi) arranged in long strands in a ceramic gutter. How about fries presented individually in a custom-designed display? Visit BioBazar at Warsaw’s Norblin Factory—a fashionable venue combining office spaces, dining spots, and shops—and explore the creative potato-themed dishware designed by students from the School of Form.

A fresh take on tradition

Project “Bulwa” is a joint initiative by School of Form, BioBazar (an eco marketplace), and Norblin Factory. Under the guidance of Arkadiusz Szwed and Maria Krześlak-Kandziora, our students have designed a collection of ceramic dishware that reimagines how potato-based dishes are served.

Experiments with form and playful dining

The students drew inspiration from a variety of potato-based dishes prepared by BioBazar. These included classic favorites such as fries, potato pancakes, and Silesian dumplings, as well as lesser-known specialties like zaguby—a potato-stuffed roll from the Podlasie region in northeastern Poland—and the French gratin dauphinois.

The final dishware, more accurately described as display pieces, highlights the unique qualities of each dish. Crafted using both 3D printing and traditional modeling techniques, these designs spark imagination, encourage culinary experimentation, and challenge the conventional idea that food must be served on a flat plate or in a bowl.
