Gratin dauphinois
This object is specifically designed for enjoying gratin dauphinois, a potato casserole from southeastern France.
The upper part, made of porcelain, is intended for piercing the gratin pieces, neatly cut with a pastry ring. Its slender design and the act of puncturing the gratin highlight the delicate slices of potato, drawing attention to the attractive layering of the dish.
The second part of the item, crafted from wood, adds a playful touch to the routine act of eating and evokes a sense of homeliness—the precisely balanced hemisphere operates like a roly-poly toy. This design metaphorically reflects the dual nature of the dish: it can be refined and noble when served elegantly, yet it retains a rustic, homely charm, much like the potato itself.
