A project by Paulina Smoczyńska and Aleksandra Wróbel, Communication Design students at the School of Form, SWPS University, has been implemented as the official visual identity for the inaugural Ekologie Kultury Festival. Inspired by the contemporary landscape of Warsaw’s Wola district, their design captures the essence of the area.

Visual identity rooted in the spirit of the district

The project was developed last year during the Visual Identity Design course led by Filip Zagórski, in collaboration with Michał Mioduszewski, the deputy director of the Wola Cultural Center (Wolskie Centrum Kultury) and one of the festival’s initiators.

Paulina Smoczyńska and Aleksandra Wróbel combined geometric forms inspired by Wola’s modern architecture with cyanotype prints of local plants and discarded materials collected in Sowiński Park. The result is a symbolic web that illustrates the connections between local institutions and residents, serving as a visual metaphor that gently encourages collective action for the environment.

When designing the festival’s identity, we thought about how we perceive Wola. We identified two key elements that define this district: natural surroundings and rapidly evolving architecture. We collected pieces of nature and some litter from Sowiński Park, placed them on light-sensitive paper, and exposed them to sunlight. The resulting imprints created intriguing patterns, which we then combined with geometric shapes. Instead of opting for the traditional green associated with ecology, we chose to highlight the natural blue hues of cyanotype
