My (our) body
An interactive book that encourages people to reflect on their own experiences and concerns about the body by touching, observing, and analyzing the thoughts of others.
My [Our] Body is a project designed to facilitate an open conversation about the body, both with oneself and with others. The goal of the book is to inspire the viewer to observe and analyze the thoughts of others as a starting point for their own self-reflection. Each page summarizes conversations with young people exploring their thoughts, experiences, and concerns. It is an invitation to discover oneself alone, in the company of another, or even in a group. The reflections presented in the book belong to other people, but they are meant to reflect ourselves and give the reader a chance to find themselves in them. By choosing whether a page describes us or not all, we give ourselves a chance to capture our own feelings. This collection of short reflections is an encouragement to keep asking ourselves questions and discovering our identity.
The project takes the form of a pop-up book, partly made in collaboration with a print shop, but glued together by hand. The moving parts require extreme precision, so an individual approach to each page was necessary. All shapes were created based on the subjects' stories, thoughts, expressions, and general style of being. Countless prototypes of the book were created before it was finalized to ensure that each story, including the smallest elements, was polished and consistent with the rest of the project.
