Hydrolab

Hydrolab is a speculative design concept that integrates hydroponics into the home, resembling abstract modern art sculptures inspired by the woven tubular stem structure of the common purslane. Known as a superfood, purslane's highly nutritious nature inspired both the form and purpose of the project: to provide fresh, nutritious produce in home kitchens through a visually intriguing hydroponic laboratory. The "hydroponic sculpture" consists of a main body and a "grow tube" with baskets for microgreens, whose roots are exposed to a constant flow of aerated, fertilized water, promoting faster and larger growth than in soil.

The object was designed by Mikołaj Bańka, a student of Industrial Design.

The project is part of the exhibition "Synanthropic plants. What Weeds teach us?" which was presented at this year's Gdynia Design Days 2024 festival.
